Munny finished!!

He's finished! Check 'im out.

I had to move the needle about a bit, in order to make it fit and not interfere with his little button eye, but otherwise he's pretty much as I planned him. You can get a slightly better look at him over on my flickr feed.

Monkaay

OK ok....I know this is deviating from standard illustration, but sock monkeys rock and besides he's got an illustration on his tummy. I don't usually post things from work, but I just had to share this time, because I'm actually proud of this one. I always wanted to know how to make one of these guys. Well, now I do. And here he is, lazing around on my couch.

The Spectre

This is a piece I created for a submission to a group Halloween show in Massachusetts. I will tell you all more about it if I get in. Anyhow, I like how it turned out.

Skeleface or die and come back as this thing.

More letters and words

Hey kids! I have created more household words. Keep checking back, I've got more on the way!
heart,
Karen O

Door

I spent some time rumaging throughout my apartment as well as the spider-strewn basement and found some random objects that could be letters. Although this was a fun exercise, in retrospect, the door the letters are on looks more like a window. It's a glass door.. so I'm thinking I'll have to re-do this one. Perhaps I could use these doors for "window" but now I'm not quite sure how to do "door"... but I'm confident I'll get struck with a brain wave soon.

Bathtub

I played around with various ways I could shoot this one. I like the idea of the floating letters, but they were difficult to keep still. I like how they look all jumbled up, but it doesn't really go with the idea of the book. (which is to be easy to read, easy to understand.. potentially meant for children) I'm thinking I need to experiment more with bubbles and more water, as well as different camera angles. This was more so an exercise than anything, but I do really like how the letters turned out.

CALABRESE!!!

That's right, these boys are crankin' out the tunes full of death, destruction, ghouls, ghosts, vampires, and everything else that my life revolves around. I have been listening to these fellas for a while now, and have always been impressed by the artwork used on their albums, posters, and merch. So, naturally, when I found out they are DIY and hire on artists themselves, I did my best to appease the Horror Gods, and they were kind enough to give me a shot. So, I was hired to dress up their blog for them with a header, blog-separator, and a portrait of my good man, Jimmy Calabrese. So here are the finished pieces, and I encourage you all to CHECK THESE GHOULS OUT!!! Website AND BLOG, House of Mysterious Secrets. Seriously, super catchy music, with awesomely dark lyrics, all wrapped up in a screaming, bloody bundle. So here are the pieces.

This one is an image for the break in between blog posts, similar to IWYS.

This is the title banner for the blog, House of Mysterious Secrets.

And this is the portrait of Jimmy Calabrese, who enjoys skeletons, H. P. Lovecraft, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon.

B-E-D

I have finished the "D"! Now I am done with the word "bed". That's all I'm really going to say about it for now, I have a lot of other things to work on. Enjoy

New Projects

This is a little poster I came up with this morning. As previously posted, I am trying to work on expanding my world of type. Thus, I found out about an exhibition that is going on about type and made a poster/flier for it. I limited myself to using only one color and one font for this project.

I have recently been given some more freelance work from Keepsilks They provide templates for various events, weddings, birthdays, new borns, etc, and they needed some help (okay, maybe a lot of help) re-vamping their image and their current templates. So I, along with a few others, have taken on the tast. This is the first design that I have come up with. The names are interchangeable..

New Shoes

I heart new shoes =)

Show me da Munny!

Hey guys. This is kinda an Urban Threads thing, but only because I found a valid excuse to go out and buy toys and claim it has something to do with my job. This is a Munny, and if you haven't heard of them, they are supremely awesome little DIY toys. I'm doing a UT themed munny, and I need some help, so I made some mockups before I start painting. Munny #1 will be munching on real thread, and #2 will have a real button eye. You can pick your fav or just pull out things you like/dislike.

You can get these little guys for 10 bucks at Robot Love. I can see you guys making some pretty sweet ones...

Animal Testing 2

I could pick up real markers and try doing it that way, but that means I would have to take off the permanently attached wacom pen from my hand. So this is my first attempt to make my digital illustration look like markers. I think it looks like markers, but I have never been a big fan of marker looking stuff. Soooo what do you guys think? The type of marker style my boss likes is kind of like Calvin and Hobbes comic covers, but with more marker texture showing through.

"E"

I have finished my letter "E". It's a little crooked, but I'm far too lazy to go back and re-sew everything, so it is what it is I guess. I'll just have to pin it back for the actual photo. Every photoshoot requires a little styling right? Anyway, here it is. Now that that's done, I'm going to get back to drinking this lovely glass of red wine I have in my hand.. =) yay for weekends
